Luminous Newts getting reviews: “Quality work!” “Is it Prog?”

We’re getting some interest among the prog (progressive rock, prog-pop) press lately, re: our upcoming album and the two songs we’ve released from it so far.

We’ve now been on internet radio in both Europe (Poland) and the U.S. We got an email recently from Jeff Fitzgerald, Host of Prog World, RiverGibbsFM.com saying: “I really like Up and Out. I’m playing it on my radio show ‘Prog World’ this week.”

A reviewer at Exposé magazine will be publishing a review later this month. Here’s an excerpt:

Is this ‘prog’? Probably not, there are no 25-minute magnum opuses, no particularly flashy solos (well, maybe a few), and no Mellotrons; I guess it depends on your definition. … One thing for certain, this (the band’s debut album) is quality work that most definitely deserves to be heard.”

Artur Chachkowski at radio MLWZ placed Luminous Newts “somewhere at the edges of the art rock genre,” adding that it “certainly has a good chance of finding many fans.”

Local Bay Area radio host Dennis Bernstein, best known as the Producer of KPFA’s Flashpoints show, listened to an advance copy of our upcoming album and called it “Good rock and roll, sung from the bottom of the soul…love this stuff!!!”

As the band’s publicist, I (Thea) always feel challenged trying to describe our music – especially the questions “What’s your genre?” and “Who do you sound like?”
